I am a SPECIALIST but not special.
Well, it is almost official. I have been offered the reading specialist/reading program director position in my district. As of today, I have accepted the offer. Now, the proposal of my position placement will be brought to the school board where they will most likely approve it. Then, I will be the reading specialist/reading program director. This title should not be misconstrued to mean that I believe I am special. Because when I think of my impending tasks and responsibilities that lie ahead, I most definitely wouldn't use the word "special" to describe the situation. I still don't believe that three graduate level college courses can equate a specialist; however, with time and experience, maybe I will believe that I truly fill those shoes.
